Thank Election Heroes Day of Action

Join the LWVWA in Thanking Election Workers on April 12!

Americans across race, place and party believe in the freedom to decide for ourselves who represents us. In the face of a pandemic and barriers erected to silence our voices, Americans have turned out in record numbers to cast our ballots to have our voices heard.

But as throughout our history, we are confronting a faction that seeks to deny us equal freedoms to seize and hold power for the wealthy few. These individuals have spread lies about our election in an effort to sow distrust about our elections and have threatened hard working election workers with violence just for doing their jobs., all so they can divide and distract us while they try to sabotage future elections.

Voting in elections is how we, the people, have a say in the decisions that impact our lives - from the jobs in our communities to the healthcare we have access to. Election workers are essential workers that support our communities - like nurses, grocery store workers, letter carriers, and firefighters.

Our democracy depends on them. Throughout the deadly pandemic, election workers have sacrificed their own health and safety to ensure that we are able to cast our votes safely and they work overtime to ensure that every vote is counted accurately.

Let's come together to thank our election workers to let them know how grateful we are that they count every vote and protect our freedom to vote.

There are a lot of different options for what to do—some ideas are:

  1. Send a thank you card to your elections office. Find your local office address here.
  2. Stop by your elections office and deliver some kind of a thank you gift (girl scout cookies? Flowers? A giant thank you card/poster?).
  3. Write an op-ed or letter to the editor of your local paper thanking them publicly
  4. Ask friends and family to send cards and/or call and say thank you.
  5. Make social media posts tagging your local elections office using #ElectionHeroes.

If you do something in-person, take photos and post them online. These heroes need to know that the work they do is appreciated!
